The Dutch state-owned railways refuse to compromise on quality or design when renovating rolling stock. That's why DAN DRYER products are the natural choice.

  • Hand-dryers for double decker trains in Holland

Project details

Project story

When the first series of the Dutch VIRM1m double decker train was due for modernisation, Swiss train interior specialists SystemTech Schneider won the contract for the new toilet compartments, which were all fitted with DAN DRYER hot air hand dryers.

Specially-designed products and close consultation with the customer

DAN DRYER had supplied hand dryers to SystemTech Schneider in 2014 for the new toilet compartments being built for Dutch company NedTrain, a specialist in train maintenance and modernisation. DAN DRYER was subsequently contacted directly by NedTrain at the time when they were modernising the latest series of double deckers, the VIRM4, owned by NS and Nederlandse Spoorwegen, the Dutch tram system.

NS had decided to change paper towel dispensers to hand dryers, the dimensions of which had to fit into the space available. "The method of mounting the machines also had to be adapted to fit in the same space as the former towel dispensers," explains Ed Visser, Export Manager at DAN DRYER.

"We arrived at a solution in close consultation with the customer using customised build-in hand dryers that fulfilled all the requirements. After final approval and an internal audit by NedTrains Supplier Quality Assurance at our premises in Randers, the first 115 units were delivered in 2015," adds Visser. DAN DRYER expects further orders for the specially-designed hand dryers from the double decker modernisation programme.

Living up to European standards

Fire safety is also fully up to scratch when DAN DRYER delivers. The build-in hand dryers are fully certified and comply with European standards, including EN 45545 for fire protection on railway vehicles.

"In addition to requirements and specifications for the actual dryer, it was important to NedTrain that DAN DRYER products were approved according to EN 45545. We meet this sort of requirement from more and more of our customers in the railway industry, and have now certified that our dryers fulfil all requirements according to the European standards," explains Visser.
